If you are one of those people who like the winter because it's the time of the year when you get to run around muddy fields in the freezing cold, look no further - the crosscountry part of the club is for you! If you prefer the confines of the track and the heat of summer - try the athletics crew... If swimming, cycling and running all in the space of a few hours is your cup of tea - the triathlon lot will make you welcome... Of course you can (and many do) take part in everything!
The club is open to all students of the University of London, regardless of ability, and everyone is welcome to come to our training sessions. In addition to the ULU training, the crosscountry lot also run with their respective college clubs.
Throughout recent seasons the club has had considerable success and boasts a number of recent BUSA Champions, Steve Money (Marathon), Colin Wilson (60m), Jo Ankier (2000SC) and Emily Freeman (100m, 200m). We also have a number of BUSA records to our name, Mark Scrutton (5k), Emily Freeman (200m) and Jo Ankier (2000SC). As a team we do quite well too, winning the Whiteknights Relays, the Luton Marathon Relay, a silver medal at the Hyde Park Relays and consistently performing well in the BUSA competitions
So, you don’t have to be a star to join the team, all you need is a bit of enthusiasm. So
don't worry about how slow or weak you think you are, just come along and have some fun and
you might even surprise yourself.
If you would like more information about the club and the committee,
please go to the 'Contact Us' page for ways you can get in
touch.
Cross Country
For the cross country lot, the main part of the season is the London Colleges League in which the constituent colleges of the University of London such as IC, Kings and UCL, along with other institutions including Brunel and Surrey University, compete over a series of six races on interesting courses all over London. The league races are used for selecting the University of London team to compete in other events - most notably the British Universities Cross Country Championships, where last year the women finished highly.
Athletics
Athletics is based around the two BUSA competitions (indoors and out) with a number of smaller events and the major ULU Athletics Championships, for the constituent colleges, to keep you going throughout the year.
Triathlon and Multi Events
We cater for multi eventers from Triathlon to Modern Pentathlon.
The aim of the club is to get as many people involved with the UK’s fastest growing sport whether
they are complete novices or wanting to do a gruelling Ironman, the club is their to support them.
What is Triathlon?
Triathlon is an athletic event consisting of swimming, cycling and running over various distances.
In most modern triathlons, these events are placed back-to-back in immediate sequence and a competitor's
official time includes the time required to "transition" between the individual legs of the race, including
any time necessary for changing clothes and shoes.
Other Multi Events
Triathlon is the is the best known multi event, but over recent years other multi events have been created
and are becoming increasingly popular. These include the duathlon which consists of run-bike-run (equally
as hard as a triathlon!), Aquathon swim-run and Biathlon which is a timed swim followed by a separate timed run,
which you get points for.
The club will be entering races in all the different types of multi events mentioned above.
However if you feel an event is missing, please contact us because we may be able to incorporate it.
One such thing is adventure racing, we already have some interest in this.
Races
Unfortunately there are limited races before Christmas which we can enter, so the race season will not start until early 2008.
Keep an eye on the fixtures page for upcoming races.
