For those of you wondering why there were different finishes for the men's and women's races, and no funnel for many of the women when they finished, the answer is as follows. The marked course led by a more direct route than in the past towards where the race had started, and we first set up a funnel alongside the tarred path. However, the leaders in the men's race followed the route we have used in previous years, going right before the end of the lap. and left skirting a football pitch. As we could see everyone else following, we set up another funnel approximately where the race finished in previous years, but this was not easy as we were trying to do it at the same time as recording times, and it took much longer than it should have done. At the end of the second lap the leading men realised something had been wrong the first time, and headed roughly, but not quite, in the originally intended direction. This required more moving of funnels, and lots of shouting to get later runners to follow this route. We could not get the attention of the last man, and he ran the longer distance of the second lap as well. I do not think it made a difference to any positions. Note that since only the best five races for any team or individual count, positions after all races may change markedly from those after five. In the event of any ties in the first three in any division, I will first compare the worst races of the teams or runners concerned, and failing that, which one has finished ahead of the other the most times, while if that too fails, I will compare aggregate times. Final League Race This will be held on Wednesday 25th February, at 3.15pm. Brunel University are organising this race. It will be run on a course south of the Brunel University campus. Changing facilities will be available at Brunel's athletics track in Kingston Lane, and the course is a few hundred metres away in Pield Heath Road. Parking is available at the track but not at the course. The course is not the same as that used last year, but is in a neighbouring field. If you are travelling by public transport, Uxbridge station (Metropolitan Line) is nearest, and a bit more than a mile away, and buses from the station (U4 and U7) stop in Kingston Lane near the track. Maps are enclosed, and explain how to get there by road. AGM and Presentation These will be held an hour or so after the sixth race, as soon as the results have been calculated, in Brunel Unversity Sports Pavilion. You should ensure that your college is represented at the AGM. The two main reasons for the AGM are to elect a secretary and treasurer for the league, and decide the venues and dates for the fixtures.
