Details of selection for the ULU teams
This page describes the requirements for selection to the various ULU Teams
for representative races. Most importantly, to compete for ULU you must be,
ahem, a "registered internal student of the University of London at member
Colleges, Institutes and Associate Institutions"!!!! However, people
ineligible for ULU selection are still welcome to join us for training and
participate in some of the events. Join the mailing list to be kept informed
of upcoming events we are sending teams to.
Membership
Really, really, important!!! The Union insists that to run for ULU in competitions,
including BUSA, you must
1) be a member of ULU for the current academic year [which means having a valid ULU
card and ULU number], and
2) be a current member of the ULU Athletics and Cross Country Club [which, er, means
sending us a membership form and membership fee].
How to do this.... first, just get a ULU card at your college from the ULU stand at
the Freshers' Fair. It's free; just bring along two passport-sized photos. If you
don't get round to this in Fresher's week, you can still pick one up from the ULU
building in Malet Street (map). You'll need the ULU number on the ULU card to become
a member of the Club. If you're studying at QMUL, your Union card will double as
your ULU card (so you just need to get a union card). All others need to get a ULU Card! (Info for NYU students)
Second, fill out the membership
form for the Club and give it to a member of the committee or send it to our treasurer! Please include the membership fee of £10 in
the form of a cheque made payable to 'University of London Union' and write 'Athletics' on the back so the union knows it's for us!

We really do recommend you do this at the start of the year (when it's a lot easier
to get hold of a ULU card) even if you're not sure whether you'll be running for us.
It won't commit you to anything at all, takes a couple of minutes and saves a lot of
hassle later in the year! Follow the Freshers golden rule: If In Doubt, Join Everything
In the past, we have had people refused places on the BUSA team to Belfast and turned
down for a Half-Purple simply because they hadn't got around to picking up a ULU card!!!!

Teams
When the teams for each event have been selected you will be notified of your selection
and (hopefully) all teams will be listed on this page - so you will be able to find out
who to beat to make the next race...
Cross Country
The teams for cross country events will be selected according to performances in the
London Colleges League, although for those who are unable to make these races other
performances can be taken into account.
BUSA XC entry is based on the ULU XC Champs and the following criteria
-The first 10 finishers in the ULU XC Championship men's race (to be held at Hackney
Marshes, in conjunction with the fourth London Colleges League race), and the first
5 finishers in the Championship women's race, will automatically be selected for the
team
- Up to a further 8 men and up to a further 4 women will then be selected based on
performances in the London Colleges League races as a whole and other races of a
good standard. Two male reserves and two female reserves will also be selected -
these reserves are likely to be needed due to injury and unavailability
Crosscountry Captain and put
your case for selection, including suitable PBs/performances.
Athletics and Triathlon
Due to the timing of these events, and the difficulty in organising trials,
athletes are selected on PBs and recent performances. As soon as the entry details
are released by BUSA the relevant captain will email the list and give all the
details you need to send to be considered for the team (to be honest, we rarely
have to make too many selection decisions, most people get to go!)
